Advanced Telescope Concepts

Project Info

Project Description

The MIT Space Systems Lab is working collaboratively with NASA and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory to shape the architectures of the next generation space telescope and beyond. Current studies being conducted are advancing the technologies needed to make autonomous in-space assembly of large aperture space telescopes (ISAT) and direct imaging of earth-like exoplanets a reality. Beyond systems design our contributions lie heavily within unveiling and leveraging the nonlinear dynamical structure of space aligning with the philosophy of the SSL that the most elegant solutions are the ones already present in nature.
